Story
Little Pris has lived above her hardworking parents' shop for as long as she can remember. For her, it is a place of togetherness, filled with the aromas of herbs and ingredients from which delicious dishes are made. One day, Pris’s mother suddenly disappears. The customers stand on the sidewalk in front of a closed roller shutter. When Pris and her father go looking, they discover that behind the shutter lies another world, full of a dense jungle of long beans and wild rivers of noodle soup.For this book, I have worked four years on the process of this book. As a child you could always find me reading comic books on the street or drawing by myself behind my desk in our home which was an apartment above the toko (translation toko from behasa Indonesia is store, but in the Netherlands it refers to a supermarkt and/or a eatery of Indonesian, Chinese, Surinamese, Indian background). And I am a big fan of books and graphic novels. This book is actually really a piece of my heart, but also takes a look into my own history and thoughts. It really is special to include a book made by yourself to have it on display for this and the next generation to have it on their own book shelf.
