The original work “Tante Tante” is the first painting made on recycled/repainted propaganda posters of the organisation CIDI. During an outbreak of violence in the ongoing Israeli–Palestinian conflict commenced on 10 May 2021 and continued until a ceasefire came into effect on 21 May, these posters were spread in that period in various neighborhoods in Rotterdam and Amsterdam. The posters carried various messages such as “In Israel, Arab parties sit parliament and Arabs have voting rights” with “Apartheid ?” and “Thousands of rockets are fired at families in Israel” and “Israel has the right to defend itself”. Together with a collective from the neighborhood Tarwewijk on the southside of Rotterdam a, we took ten posters down in Rotterdam and took it on to ourselves to recreate a new work about a situation that is in need for support to the Palestians. We believe that propaganda on a situation where one side is explained is by CIDI is not needed in the public space, but we believe that global political change is needed to achieve human rights for all Palestinians!
“Tante Tante” is a portrait of two Indonesian women shopping in a toko in Rotterdam. Without being aware of their coolness, these women represent womxnhood, diversity, culture and to wear what they want to wear. We are proud to present a T-shirt where the profits will be donated to Palestine Children’s Relief Fund.
